3 Tips for Managing Mental Load as a Wedding Business Owner
The entrepreneurial journey can be tough, exhausting, and at times, isolating. Balancing the responsibilities of running a business with the personal demands of relationships and family life is not a walk in the park.
Today, I want to address the elephant in the room – the "mental load". That nagging, ever-growing list of tasks in the back of your mind that never seems to shrink, no matter how many items you check off. It can make us feel like we're carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders.
Here's the good news: you're not alone, and there are tangible ways to lighten this load.
Here are three tips for managing mental load as a wedding business owner.
Communication is key.
One of the most underrated, yet powerful tools in your toolbelt is communication. When you're knee-deep in your business, it's easy to lose sight of the balance at home and start to have resentment and overwhelm build between you and your partner.
It's time to initiate a discussion. Divide and conquer – figure out who handles what and empower each other in these roles. Wondering how to broach this conversation without a fight occurring? Have a listen to Weddings For Real episode 236 with Dr. Tracy Dalgleish, a brilliant psychologist and marriage therapist. In the episode, she offers game-changing advice on managing the mental load, delegating tasks effectively, and facilitating constructive conversations with your partner.
Delegation is another potent tool.
Letting go of tasks and trusting your partner or team members to take over is not a sign of weakness. It’s powerful to articulate where you need help. Lightening your mental load often begins with sharing it.
Bear in mind that we're all different.
Your partner and your team members aren’t a carbon copy of you, and that's okay. Now I say this with love… but your way of doing things isn’t the only way. It’s essential to understand and respect our unique ways of dealing with things and showing emotions. Only by embracing these differences can we effectively work together with our partners and team members to combat the mental load.
The next time you feel overwhelmed with your mental load, remember these three tips and know that you’re capable, you're resilient, and you’re a badass.
