How to Achieve Balance as a Wedding Pro

Whether you’ve been in the industry for one year or ten, we all know how working in the wedding industry can be extremely busy and stressful…especially during peak season. That's why I’m sharing my best self-care and balance tips that can help you stay centered and healthy, even during the busiest of wedding seasons.

1. Prioritize rest and relaxation. Even when it feels like there’s no time for it, it’s important to take care of yourself! In this industry, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle of working fourteen hour Saturdays and all of the long days that lead up to them. However, you’re not a robot and if you don’t carve out some refueling and downtime in between your events, then you’ll find yourself exhausted, depleted, and not able to show up for your clients or your loved ones. I know you’re busy but even taking 5 minutes to meditate, walk outside and get some vitamin D, or simply just stepping away from your phone and your laptop to take 2 minutes of deep breaths can make a HUGE difference in pressing the reset button during busy season.

2. Set boundaries. Boundaries are your best friend during the busy season! Boundaries do not make you rude or any less caring. One of the biggest challenges of working in the wedding industry is the constant demand for our time and attention from our clients and from other wedding pros. Juggling multiple clients with different needs and timelines isn’t an easy feat, but it's important to remember that we cannot and should not be available to our clients 24/7.  Setting boundaries around work hours and communication can help you avoid burnout and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

3. Connect and learn from others in the industry. Finally, remember that you're not alone in this and you are not the only one navigating this messy and chaotic ride we call entrepreneurship. Building relationships with other wedding pros can be a great way to find support and community. Whether it's joining a local networking group, a virtual networking group like my Weddings For Real group, or grabbing coffee with a fellow industry friend to vent, connecting with others who understand the unique challenges of this industry can be a great way to stay grounded and energized. Having people that just get it in your circle makes it that much easier.
