5 Myths About the Wedding Industry

The wedding industry in the United States is valued at $70.3 billion as of 2023, according to Zippia.

With such a large and growing industry, it can be easy to cast judgments about the wedding industry as a whole. Today, I’m sharing five myths about the wedding industry that you need to stop believing to fully set yourself up for success as a wedding professional in 2023 and beyond.

learn myths about the wedding industry

Myth: You need to be super clear about your ideal client from day one of your business.
Reality: You likely won’t know your ideal client from the get go, and that’s okay. It’s completely normal to start your business and be “for all” until you start to find your niche or see a pattern or qualities in clients that you want to continue to attract... and perhaps ones that you want to avoid.

Myth: You need to be able to do it all (and do it all well) in your business to achieve success.
Reality: Stop putting too much pressure on yourself, and hire for your weaknesses as soon as possible. Not everyone is great at everything, so hire for those areas that need some extra attention.

5 wedding industry myths

Myth: The only marketing you need for your biz is social media marketing.
Reality: There is so much more to marketing than Instagram & TikTok. So, don't fret if you don't have a huge following or the perfect feed. Other areas to dig into are SEO, referrals, and networking, to name a few!

Myth: The key to pricing your services is to be slightly less than your competition, so clients book you instead of them.
Reality: The key to pricing your services is to truly understand the hours you’ll be investing in work for each client and compare that to your income goals.

Myth: Trial and error and learning from your mistakes is part of the journey of entrepreneurship.
Reality: While this may be partially true, some mistakes can be incredibly costly in both time and resources. Taking advice from those that have been in your exact position can save you so much stress. Tune in to Weddings For Real episode 146 to hear my 11 years of biz advice in under 20 minutes.
