Wedding Pros: Your Guide on How to Stand Out with Potential Clients

I’m a big believer in second chances. But there’s one time when you’ll never get a second chance: when making a first impression.

There just aren’t any do-overs for that initial interaction, so I’m here to share how to stand out with potential clients from the very first interaction.

1. Get energetic! For your first chat be sure to sit up straight, focus on the clients in front of you, and don’t forget to smile! Clients want to feel comfortable and welcome, and your excitement creates a good vibe! This is especially important to keep in mind for virtual discovery calls since it’s harder to read body language via Zoom.

2. Frame questions intentionally. Remember you are a random stranger to potential clients, so be sure to build the warmth and connection before diving into things you don’t actually want to know… like their engagement story. Instead, try to understand the couple’s goal for hiring you as a vendor and their vision for their wedding day. This step is so important that, in The Planner’s Vault, I have a 6-step consultation guide for nailing it every time.

3. Practice active listening. As hard as it may be for you, don’t constantly think about what you’ll say next. Instead, notice how the couple interacts with each other. Who is the decision maker? Will they be a nightmare to work with? Every time you meet with a potential client, ensure that you’re fully “on” and ready to listen!

4. Have a mission and purpose. After they’ve been given the opportunity to talk about themselves and open up, find the right time to talk about your mission and purpose. Share what makes you you and how you like to work with your clients. Your passion and enthusiasm will show, and that’s so important!
