Top Tips for Combatting Imposter Syndrome

Have you ever had thoughts like these?

  • Everyone is going to figure out that I'm a big fraud.

  • Everyone else in this industry is more successful than I am.

  • Everything good that's happened in my business is because I've gotten lucky.

If you, too, have had these thoughts, you've struggled with a super loud inner critic... often referred to as imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome occurs among high achievers who are unable to internalize and accept their success. They often attribute their accomplishments to luck rather than ability. And, they fear that others will eventually unmask them as a fraud.

Learning to combat imposter syndrome and quiet our inner critic is one of the more challenging things we'll have to do as business owners. But I'm here to share my lessons learned to help you get past your limiting beliefs and overcome imposter syndrome starting NOW.

Imagine sitting down with your 18-year-old self. Think about how proud you'd be of all of the accomplishments you've achieved as an entrepreneur. You survived a global pandemic, you bring joy to your couples, and you are respected and loved by your industry peers. 18-year-old you would be in awe of your resilience and perseverance in pursuing your dreams. In fact, one of my own reminders of this is a sticker on the inside of my laptop that says, "The old you would be so proud of this you."

Remind yourself that perfection does not exist. Embrace the messy side of life and business ownership. No one in our industry knows everything, so don't feel like you always have to have the perfect answer to every question. You have certain innate skill sets and superpowers that I promise you are what you need to focus on instead of the negative beliefs you hold about yourself. Put your energy into focusing on the good things that set you apart, and growth and abundance will follow. I pinky promise!

Reflect on where you're spending your time and energy when it comes to the information you're digesting. Do you need to limit your scrolling time? Do you need to take inventory of the accounts you follow? Ask yourself if what you're doing and who you're allowing into your head truly bring you joy.
